Transfer Students Admissions Step 1

Transfer

Transfer applicants are those who have earned high school diplomas or the equivalent and who have attempted at least 18 semester credits at other regionally accredited colleges or universities before enrolling at Penn State.

Who Is Likely To Be Admitted?

Applicants who have completed the equivalent of 18 semester hours of credit (approximately 27 quarter hours) after graduation from high school are considered for admission based upon their performance at the collegiate level. Transfer applicants must also meet, either through courses in high school or college level equivalents, the basic high school subject requirements for admission.

  • You may not disregard your college work and apply as a first-year student.
  • For admission to University Park campus, applicants must have completed 2 years of college level work (approximately 60 credits) and have strong academic records. Certain programs have more stringent grade point average requirements and may also require the completion of prerequisite courses. Some programs may not be available to transfer students. See our academic requirements page for details.
  • Transfer admission to campuses other than University Park is possible after applicants have completed 18 semester hours of credit. Most programs require a minimum grade point average of 2.0 although programs in education, engineering and the sciences typically require a cumulative average of at least a 2.5. Certain programs may also require the completion of prerequisite courses. Some programs may not be available to transfer students. See individual listings under the academic requirements page for details.
